Thank you soooo much for liking my previous post on living with depression. Your love means a lot to me! If you follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, you would know that soon after the previous post, I literally asked my readers to choose my next topic, between tips to battle depression and living with anxiety. Quite expectedly though, I received multiple requests to write on the former one. Yes, just like you, there are millions of others around the globe who are actually trying to fight against it.
You’re NOT alone!
I experienced depression at such a time when I least expected it. Of course, the phase hit back again post-delivery, but thankfully this time I knew what I can do to ward it off.

And to help all the others out there, I am here to share those really easy tips. In case, you’re thinking that I was under some kind of treatment, you’re wrong! These are completely my experienced tips and I am sure you might want to try them out as well.
Disclaimer-Before starting off, I would like to clarify that I am no psychiatrist or a psychologist. The following points are just tips and not suggestions. I am just a simple blogger who wants to help people at large suffering from the same. The final decision to implement them in real lives is completely the reader’s responsibility.

Yes, I know I had mentioned this in my pessimism post as well. But, trust me, it can actually do wonders! Reading inspirational or even fictional stories helps in building self-belief. You gradually believe and understand that if others can do, if others can achieve dreams and can be happy, why not me?
Reading makes you find yourself in the pages. Sooner or later, you will definitely come across a character who represents you. And that’s when you will understand your state of mind! You will soon understand the existing chaos in your mind and similar solutions to get it done with with. Reading seriously can help healing your mind. Ask me, what should you read? I would recommend the following.

Don’t Listen To The Voice of Depression
When you’re depressed, you might feel doing exactly what your depression mind wants you to do. For some it’s binge eating, drinking, staying alone or just listening to depressing songs. DO NOT DO THAT!
The moment you let that happen, you’re actually letting the stage overpower you. Slowly yet steadily, you fall in its grasp. Your mind gets trained to do everything that can harm you. Physically and mentally! Don’t let that happen. Before it’s too late, try nipping the evil in the bud.
Do What You Love
Depression is a typical lethargic state of mind that compels you to hate even things that you once loved. Try reviving that passion. Even if you no longer want it! Investing your time and energy in these things can boost your active state, thus giving the lethargic mode a backseat. Slowly yet gradually, re-finding interests can help reigniting the dormant spark in you. Cook a dinner or just go for a solo trip or start up your own blog. Indulge in anything or, better, everything that makes you feel better.
Eat What You Love
When I am talking about eating, I am NOT recommending binge eating. No, I would never do that! Eat in moderation and try having foods that you just love. If you follow me on my blog, you might have got a minor hint that I am a total pizza freak. Even when I was suffering from post-partum depression, I made sure I got my slice. And believe it or not, that actually helped.
Eating what you love, unless prescribed harmful, at least what I feel, helps you attain a state of happiness; happiness that’s just priceless.
Spend Time With Real Friends
By this time, you have already understood that not everyone who claims to be your friend or who claims to love actually does so. When you already know who are those special ones in your life, don’t ever let them go. Be it your family or your BFFs, spend as much time as possible. Avoid isolation, even if that means talking over the phone for a hours or sharing your issues over chats. Isolation is the depression’s best friend. Don’t let it befriend your current state.
I don’t know about others, but I honestly believe that until and unless I start respecting and loving myself, I shouldn’t expect the same from others. Grooming is actually very important. The lesser you pay attention to yourself, the more you would appreciate others and their looks. And with grooming, I don’t necessarily mean make-up. I am asking you to get that look in which you shall be confident. Proper grooming can actually help build confidence that can help you keep depression at bay.
Simple yet one of the most underestimated tips! Meditation helps you attain solitude without making you feel isolated. Studies have actually shown that around 30 minutes of meditative sessions are actually much better than counselling alone, especially for depression. And yes, when done regularly, it can also be beneficial for your overall health as well. I know because it has done for me!
Watch Something Funny
I know it’s quite silly, but have you yet tried it? Watching anything that’s funny or at least makes you smile can actually trigger your brain that you can be happy. Read P.G. Wodehouse novels or just play your favourite stand-up comedy shows. Watching or reading anything funny can actually be instrumental to remind yourself that you too can smile “again.”
So, people, these were some of my personal tips that actually helped me battle depression. I didn’t seek any treatment nor any medication. However, the stage can be different from one person to the other. In case, you feel your stage is a crucial one, feel free to seek medical help. All the while just remember you’re not alone. You can overcome this stage and you can be happy again!
