10 Things Indian TV Serials Want You To Believe But Are Instead Super-Funny!
Once a student asked her teacher,
“Ma’am, what are the real monsters?”
And the teacher replied (in her mind), “It’s definitely Indian TV serials!”
Love them or hate them, the daily soaps have an immense popularity among the masses. In fact, to a certain extent, they are more important to some women than serving dinner at right time.
I totally mean it!

All thanks to my mother, without whom I could have never known the real meaning of “over-drama.” Growing up with these monsters, I realized soon that some common traits thus present in most of the Indian TV serials are actually more incredible than the dragons in GOT! Brace yourself as we present some of the most comic “fundas” which most of these serials desperately want us to believe.
1. Always dressed for weddings
O-M-G! I just have no idea where do the characters in these Indian TV serials get time to stay prim and proper, literally always.
While this is most of us, (at least me), when we wake up every morning,
this perfectly defines them!
And, did I mention, sleeping in heavy jewellery, accessories or at least in make-up is NBD! Even in hospitals!
2. Getting married many times is cool
A rich guy meets a poor “sanskari” girl. They fall in love. They get married. The friendzoned or ex-girlfriend of the guy turns up. Scripts loads of conspiracies to get them divorced. The “happily married” couple gets a divorce. The “vamp” and the guy marry each other. Again divorce. Again married. Aand, it goes on and on!
Thus, the vicious cycle of LSD-love, separation and divorce!
3. Getting life back is so easy
I still remember how Mihir literally reincarnated in Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi! A cool comeback from death is not just cool but is, in fact, scheduled only for the lead characters. Because, hell yeah, what do you say to the God of death? “Not today”
Now I know, George R.R. Martin’s real inspiration for Jon Snow!
And of course, when you can be “again” alive, it’s completely easy for any disabled or handicapped to be normal as well.
4. And so is memory loss
Recent studies have shown that at least one lead character in Indian TV serials is prone to loss of memory. Causes are likely to be extreme stupidity of the script, overload of makeup bling, nonsense plot and loads of spare time.
5. Falling is alwaaaaays romantic
The lead female characters in Indian TV serials have a perfect sense of timing when they’re about to fall. From stairs, ladders, chairs, hills, mountains or planets, they will only fall down when the male protagonist is around. Ask why? Because he always has time to catch her!
6. Everyone is always free
I guess that’s the most obvious question that I always had while watching most of the Indian TV serials. How does everyone, literally everyone, in these soaps get such massive spare time? Who is the bread-earner when everyone is back home? How is it possible to become millionaires with so less effort? And, how are we supposed to believe that shit!
7. Dramatic music is a must
The female lead is pregnant or the vamp just successfully poisoned someone, the revelation of just anything is always accompanied by real dramatic music and, of course, echoes. But, wait that doesn’t happen just once, but thrice for almost every important character.
Because acting is too mainstream in Indian TV serials to reveal emotions.
8. Dress defines roles
Apparently, women in modern or trendy dresses or styles are always known to be the ultimate vamps. Whereas, ladies clad in traditional attire are always the epitome of extreme goodness.
Yeah, totally acceptable!!!
9. Cities=selfishness! Villages=Innocence!
Okay, I am not defending the city life, but apparently, according to most of our recent storytellers, (at least for most of the Bengali Indian TV serials), the urban population comprises of only selfish and evil people. Whereas, people living in villages, or rather, everything there, is just replete with purity and innocence.
Yes, for sure!!!
10. Supernatural qualities mean TRPs
Only an ardent fan of Indian TV serials would know what I am talking about! The new key to more TRPs is featuring supernatural traits or powers associated with the lead characters. And, that can turn anyone into snakes, flies or just anything!
And as if that’s not enough, awesome quality special effects are always there!
